The building
The Building
Long before it held a tango show, the room at Cerrito 570 held a cinema screen — the arches, the balconies and the relief above the stage are original to that build, not decoration added for the show.
A Loew's cinema, 1956
Built for the American studio Loew's and opened as the Cine Metro on 4 October 1956, designed by the Belgian-born architect Alberto Bourdon.
An Art Deco relief over the stage
The arch above the curtain still carries its original relief — film reels and figures cast above the proscenium, the clearest trace left of the room's life as a cinema.
